Youth & Family at Emmanuel Lutheran
The Youth and Family Ministry Team (YFMT) is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining ministry programs and events for people of all ages. Currently, our youth group is our most vibrant program but we are looking to expand. Our youth group consists of those who are started in confirmation (typically seventh grade) through twelfth grade, with ongoing emphases of developing faith-based leadership and a commitment to serving our neighbor. Typically the format for our youth group consists of youth nights once per month as well as service projects periodically through the year.
A typical youth night is a shared meal, a shared conversation regarding faith in the world, as well as fun! We periodically do activities beyond the walls of the church including bowling, youth retreats, laser tag and more. We encourage youth to offer ideas and take agency in developing a program that meets their needs.
We have also historically taken part in the national ELCA Youth Gathering, the next which is coming up in 2018 in Houston, TX. We do fundraising and extensive planning to prepare our high school youth for what is really a life changing experience of faith.
Twice per year, we also hold Youth-led worship, where youth take the helm in planning and the preaching of the service. They are always some of our best attended services each year!
We are always in need of people to help with this important ministry at Emmanuel. The YFMT meets about once a month to brainstorm about programs and events for our congregation. We are especially looking for parents of elementary-age children and those who would like to help with adult programs.
