Youth and Family Ministry Calendar - September 2010

September 4, Saturday, 1 p.m. - Lunch at California Tortilla (Cal Tort)
Meet Pastor Lewis outside California Tortilla in the Cabin John Mall at 1 p.m. for lunch. Pastor Lewis will treat all those who arrive on time.

September 12, Sunday, 10:30 a.m. - Rally Day
All youth are requested to help with the Rally Day Activities. Please be at the church by 10 a.m.

September 12, Sunday, 12:30 p.m. - Church Picnic
Everyone is invited to the Church Picnic after the second worship service. The entree and drinks will be provided, all we ask is that you bring a salad, side disk or dessert to share. See elsewhere in this issue for more information.

September 13, Monday, 12 noon - Fun Bunch
The Fun Bunch will meet again after a summer hiatus. This is our annual “What I Did This Summer” luncheon, so please bring some show-and-tell items to share with everyone.

September 19, 10 a.m. - Youth Parents Meeting
All parents of youth (7th to 12th grade) are encouraged to attend this important meeting about the plans for the 2010-11 year. We will meet in the Christian Education room.

September 19, Sunday, 1:00 p.m. - Lunch and Laser Tag
Meet Pastor Lewis at Cici’s Pizza at the Quince Orchard Shopping Center where he will treat for lunch, and then it’s off to Shadow Land Laser Tag also located in the Shopping Center. Bring $15 for two games of laser tag and some extra if you want to get a snack or drink between games. Cici’s Pizza is located at 642 Quince Orchard Road.

September 25 - 26 - Mar-Lu-Ridge Homecoming & Walkathon
The Lutheran camp, Mar-Lu-Ridge is hosting several events during the weekend of September 25 - 26, 2010.

October 3, Sunday, 10 a.m. - Youth Sunday Preparation
All youth, 7th to 12th grade, will meet in the Christian Education room as we finalize plans for the Youth Sunday the following week.

October 4, Monday, 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. - Confirmation Class and serve at CBS
This is the first meeting of the Confirmation Class. Besides beginning classes, we will also be preparing food to bring and serve at the Community Base Shelter in Rockville.

October 10, Sunday, Both Worship Services - Youth Sunday
Youth will lead and share their message at both services on this Sunday.

CHURCH PICNIC - September 12, 2010 Being @ 12:30 p.m

Food Moon Bounce & More

Everyone is invited to attend our Annual Rally Day Picnic starting after the second worship service. The entree and drinks will be provided. We ask you to please bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share, a sign-up sheet will be in the Narthex.. We will have games and a moon bounce for the children, activities for youth and adults. Come out and have some fun. This is also a great day to bring a friend to church.

FUN BUNCH - September 13, 2010 Noon

The Fun Bunch will meet in the Fellowship Hall for lunch at noon on September 13, 2010. Lunch will be provided (and we ask for a free-will donation to help cover the cost). This is our annual “What I Did This Summer” luncheon, so please bring some show-and-tell items such as pictures or souvenirs to share with everyone. Everyone is invited to join us for the Fun Bunch Lunch. A sign-up sheet will be in the Narthex.

Mar-Lu-Ridge Homecoming & Walkathon - September 25 - 26, 2010

Mar-Lu-Ridge, one of the great Lutheran Camps, is celebrating with a homecoming and walkathon. There are many ways that you can be involved. One way is to register to stay the entire weekend and have a great time the whole weekend, but you will have to do that quickly. If you cannot make the whole weekend, there are many other ways to get involved. Contact Pastor Lewis for details.

WALKATHON registration begins at 12:45 p.m. at Mar-Lu-Ridge with the walk starting at 1:30 p.m. The walk will be about 5 miles. A hay wagon is available for those who would rather ride or might need a little help along the way.

Minors attending without family are WELCOME at the Mar-Lu-Ridge celebration. Summer staff will be on hand to lead them. Registration forms can be found at http://www.mar-lu-ridge.org/Downloads/mlrhomcoming10.pdf

Youth and Family Ministry Team Needs You!

The Youth and Family Ministry Team (YFMT) is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and maintaining ministry programs and events for people of all ages. From the Fun Bunch events for our 60+ members to the Adventure Club for elementary age children; from Work Camp and Mission Trips to Family get-togethers such as Ice Skating and Bowling we do it all. And we are need of a few people to help with this important ministry at Emmanuel.

The YFMT meets about once a month to brainstorm about programs and events for our congregation. We are especially looking for parents of elementary age children and those who would like to help with adult programs such as the Dinner Club, Fun Bunch and other events. Please contact Pastor Lewis to let him know you want to be involved with this wonderful and important ministry.
